Bringing It All Together

January 18, 2017 by Lindsay Ingalls 7 Comments

Death_to_stock_photography_Wake_Up_9

Over the past few months I have been have been trying to decide what direction I want Running With Tongs to go in.

One of the things that keeps coming up in conversations I’ve had with other bloggers is how I’ve approached dividing my content between my several blogs and social media accounts. The one question that keeps coming up is “Why do you have so many accounts?”. The truth is, I’ve been hesitant to mix my content on Running With Tongs since getting negative feedback several years ago when sharing my stories of my first pregnancy.

It left me feeling pressured to separate my life as a mom from my interests in food and fitness. But without sharing all of this, I feel like I’m not giving a fair representation of who I am to you. The truth is, I’m not just a lifestyle blogger or a parenting blogger. I am a mom. I love food and fitness. I’m passionate about natural body care and make up. I’m an essential oils educator and wellness advocate. I want to share all of this with you. These are the things I want to talk about with my friends and that’s what we are here, friends.

I’ll still be maintaining a couple different social media accounts, but I’m incredibly excited to get back to writing and sharing a lot more of me and my passions with you here on Running With Tongs.

Which is Better? Instagram Story v. Snapchat

August 4, 2016 by Lindsay Ingalls 2 Comments

I thought (like most other bloggers) I would weigh in on the new Instagram Story v. Snapchat. I have to say my initial response was no. Just no. It took me a year to finally fully embrace Snapchat and I love it so why is Instagram coming in and trying to take over.

Image-1-1The thing is though as I have been playing around with Instagram Stories I have come to really like it. I have realized [for me] that Snapchat and Instagram Stories are two different things. Snapchat is a fun way for me to connect, be a little goofy and share a bit of my life to anyone who wants to follow me.

Instagram Stories allows me to filter a bit more of my content so that it focuses more specifically to my followers of each of my [too] many Instagram accounts. If I want to share family things I’ll share it on my Naturally Family, healthy living/fitness/food on RunWithTongs, Essential Oils on Essentially Lindsay, health and wellness coaching on PDXHealthCoach and beauty/makeup on Naturally Lindsay.

Instagram Stories also allows me to connect with a huge range of people who I don’t follow/don’t follow me on Snapchat (I’m lindsayingalls if you do want to follow). I love being able to connect with others so for me this is the biggest selling point of Instagram Stories.

Will I be leaving Snapchat though? NO WAY! It’s such a fun spot to be on and the filters (which yes, I know IG will also have eventually). I use Snapchat to give a little highlight into my day/life. It’s basically my lazy way of daily vlogging.

So both have their pros and cons but it seems that both Istagram Stories and Snapchat have their place in this social media world.

What are your thoughts?

Goals | March 2016

2016 goals

+Read Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

I’m part of the Glowing Green Community of Facebook and our first book club book is Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear*. I am nearly half way through and I am loving this book. If you’d like a full review let me know in the comments below. If you’d like to join the community you can do so here and our book club we are voting this week on our next book!

+Workout at the gym 10 times.

I know it might not sound like a lot but I am working hard to getting back to regular gym workouts. Unfortunately my gym has weird hours and no childcare so I can’t go as frequently as I’d like but I feel like 10 is a good and maybe even a bit of a challenging goal.

+Create an editorial.

This is a goal that I have had for years and I have made regular attempts but never seem to stick it. I am going to this year though and I even bought myself some really cute quarterly planners from inkWell Press* along with some stickers and pens to decorate my planner. What can I say I am a pen and paper kind of planner.

+Visit Tea Bar.

I know this one might sound like a strange goal to have but I have been wanting to visit Tea Bar here in Portland since it opened and I have yet to go. I am dying to give it a try so I am planning on treating myself this month.

+Focus on improving my Instagram accounts.

Can we first give a big shout out to Instagram for finally allowing you to toggle between accounts! I have three different Instagram accounts (Naturally Family, Naturally Lindsay and Running With Tongs – feel free to follow them-wink wink, nudge nudge) and this is making it so much easier to stay on top of all of them. I am working to improve my photos, my interactions, my entire design and I hope to do so this month
