Lindsay & Neil Run Disney

August 30, 2011 by Lindsay Ingalls 5 Comments

Today marks the official start of my training for my first half marathon ever. I am lucky enough to be running it at Disney world with my loving husband. This is a huge deal for me because I never thought I’d be writing this post but I’ve got the running bug and I’m so excited it brings tears to my eyes, literally, I’m not joking you I cried watching the above video. I also cried watching 15+ other videos including this one;I’m just so overwhelmed with excitement. This is going to be an amazing, challenging, worthwhile experience and I look forward to sharing it with you along the way.

I don’t want to overload CVL with posts about training so I will be limiting my posts to Fitness Fridays. However, if you want to read more Neil and I have created a blog to document our experience called One Step At A Time for this purpose. We will both be blogging here and discussing how we are feeling, what our training is like and will be looking for any guest posts on your own 1/2 or full marathon experiences.

Let the training begin!

Q: Have you runDisney? If you have an want to share your experience email us here.

I’m Still Here

August 17, 2011 by Lindsay Ingalls 3 Comments

I was looking back on my last few posts and well honestly they have been lacking in quantity and quality.  My excuse isn’t that I have nothing to write about or don’t feel like blogging because I do…it’s just I have been strapped for time.  This has been one of the craziest months for me between training, traveling, health coaching and other new adventures.  I hope to get back on track in September when things quiet down (a little).  I have been cooking a lot lately, we currently have a no eating out until Philly rule, but most of my meals have been quinoa or brown rice with steamed veggies.  Now I think it’s kind of boring but if that interest you I can post- just let me know.

So the other thing is although I have not been blogging has much here you may have seen me around a few other places such as:

Fitness Friday: July In Review

August 5, 2011 by Lindsay Ingalls 2 Comments

I have been lacking on the Fitness Friday posts the past few weeks but I’m getting myself back on track starting now.  I completed my miles for the Hotter Than Hades Virtual Half-Marathon about 10 days ago and am looking forward to the results in about 10 days.

My workouts so far this week. I am going to the gym after work so Friday will be filled in later.

Workouts for July and First Week of August

Upcoming Events:

  • Tomorrow a.m.: Group Run & Yoga at the Waterfront
  • Tomorrow p.m.: Vinyasa at the Vineyard; yoga and a wine tasting.
  • October 8, 2011: MY FIRST EVER 10K (unless I do the downtown 10K on September 25th)
  • January 7, 2011: MY FIRST EVER HALF MARATHON ( AND IT’S AT DISNEY WORLD)
Other Updates:
  • I have come to learn that 2 days off is my max when it comes to running before I feel a huge difference.
  • Morning runs are so much better for two reasons a) it wake me up and b) running in the afternoon is way too hot right now
  • I have debated over the Hal Higdon half marathon plan and the Jeff Galloway plan, the Higdon plan has come highly recommended by friends and  the Galloway by twitter friends. After doing a lot of researching and reading on a number of blogs including these ones here, here, and here I have decided that the Galloway plan is (probably) right for me. So now that i’ve decided my training will (officially) start on August 30th! What are you thoughts on the Galloway plan? What is your favorite training plan?
P.S. I used Daily Mile to track my workouts.

{Giveaway} Sweaty Bands

July 28, 2011 by Lindsay Ingalls 26 Comments

I have always struggled to find the perfect sports headband to wear for running and other activities.  I have always found ones that are okay but they end up slipping off after awhile, so when I Sweaty Bands offered to send me a sample of their product I jumped at the opportunity.  Sweaty Bands are made to grip and hold your hair all without slipping or causing breakage. In addition to holding your hair back they soak up sweat without dripping and keep those wispy little hairs out of your face.

I was a little skeptical when I first took it out of the package because it looks like a few of the other active headbands I have but I was surprised by how well it worked.  I first tried it out during my last training run and it worked well but the real test was going to be my 5k race.  Since it’s been so hot out I have been wearing a bandana to help keep the sweat from dripping down my face but it’s bulky and tends to shift a lot during my run so I was hoping that the Sweaty Band would help with both keeping my hair out of my face and catch a bit of my sweat.

To my delight the Sweaty Band did indeed keep my hair out of my face and most of the sweat off too.  The band did not shift at all during my run and I barely even noticed it was on my head.  In addition to keeping my hair back and the sweat off my face it is super cute and comes in a number of styles; I want the 13.1 Sweaty Band when I finish my first half.

Well now that I’ve told you how great it is (and it really is) I am going to give you a chance to win one yourself.

Old Port 5k Recap

July 27, 2011 by Lindsay Ingalls 3 Comments

We did it! Neil and I ran our first 5k this past weekend in Portland, ME. It was an amazing experience and we both did really well.

The race started off on a hill. I was feeling nervous because I had only done one kill run during my training so I wasn’t sure how I would do. To my delight and both Neil and my surprise I actually crushed that hill. The course went onto a slightly inclined area and eventually to the stairs which you can see here. I shocked myself on the stairs. I didn’t stumble, fall flat on my face or run into anyone; WIN!

Then it was on to the next section of the course which was on a bike path right along the water. This area was described to us as “flat as a pancake”; well it was only “flat as a pancake” if pancakes have lump inclines. I really hit my stride at the last mile and it felt great. When I got to the last .1, right before the finish line, I decided to give it all I had and pass the 2 people in front of me to come in at a 37:36 giving me a 12:05 pace per mile. This was huge for me since my last 3.1 mile training run was 40:30 and the one before that 39:30! There were 17 finishers in the Female 25 to 29 age group and 185 finishers in the race. My overall finish place was 158 and I placed 16th in my age group (I didn’t finish last overall or in my age group- WAHOO).
Neil crossed the finish line at 28:49 and came in 5th out of 8 in his age group and 93rd overall. He rocked it.

After Race Complimentary Beers

After race brunch at Whole Foods (kale salad, home fries, roasted mushrooms, tomatoes, vegan chicken salad, fresh roll, macrobiotic dumplings and a vegan sesame chicken nugget)

Five Things

July 20, 2011 by Lindsay Ingalls 1 Comment

Five Things I’ve Been Loving Lately:

1. Five Bamboo Travel Skirt– Five Bamboo sent me a sample of their skirt for review and I have been wearing it all the time.  Unfortunately I have yet to get a picture of myself in it because well I am usually behind the camera, however this weekend we are traveling and it will be perfect for the trip. This skirt is ridiculously comfortable and so soft! I am in love with it.  I am so in love with how cute it looks on and how comfortable it is, especially right now in this crazy hot humid Vermont weather. Now I just have to find someone to get me their Rohre Dress for my birthday next month- any takers?

2. Fearless Matcha Green Trea & Peppermint Chocolate: A few weeks ago via a twitter conversation myself and another tweeter got to talking about green tea chocolate and I of course had to chim in that Fearless makes the best kind (I have ever had) and to top it all off it has peppermint in it too. Neil and I have been trying to savor this bar but like most chocolate it didn’t last long in our house.  Oh well! Luckily we have a few other flavors to try and they sell it at a number of different shops in Burlington now.

Ingredients: Organic Raw Cacao, Organic Rapadura, Organic Matcha Green Tea, Organic Peppermint

3. Running! I never thought that I would say this but I am loving it.  I actually have the urge to go on runs now and I look forward to my next run day. On top of that I am loving running in the morning- yes 6am runs are way better than my old 3pm runs.

4. The Japanese Iced Coffee Method.  We used to do cold brewing in our french press…untile we broke it.  Lately we have been trying this different method and it makes really wonderful coffee.

5. My Man. Supportive. Wonderful. Helpful. Loving. and so much more xo. (I know you’re either awing or gaging right now but it’s true.)

oh and one thing I am hating- my sunburn that has blister. GROSS.
