Get Your Greens Delivered! | organicgirl

July 6, 2016 by Lindsay Ingalls 8 Comments

Disclaimer: organicgirl provided me with a free trial of their greens delivery box.

Organic Girl Delivered

For months and months I have been dying to get my hands on some organicgirl juices. They have been flooding my instagram feed because apparently I follow a lot of healthy living bloggers who live in areas where these juices are readily available. So I have been waiting and waiting until the day when these juices would make their way to Oregon and guess what? I need not wait any longer because organicgirl will deliver my green juices, greens and their dressings straight to my front door. If you know me you know I love a good delivery service so of course if I can get my favorite greens delivered fresh to my door you’d better believe I’m going to check that service out.

Organic Girl Juice

So when it comes to delivery options you can go the juice route and get six juices delivered straight to your door or you can do like me and make sure you have some greens to munch on as well. There are a few different pre-created options that you can choose when it comes to the greens, juices and dressings mix but I love the customizable route.

In my box I received one of my top three organicgirl greens – PEPPERGREENS (romaine heart leaves and mache rosettes completing my top three), a new vegan dressing – pomegranate balsamic and four juices. First off PEPPERGREENS are amazing on everything so I served mine up with a big bowl of lentils but they are also pretty amazing with the pomegranate balsamic dressing (let me know if you’d like to see a few salad ideas).

Organic Girl - Delivery

Let’s get down to the reason you are really here – the juices. I know you’ve been wondering about them and do they really live up to the hype? I have to say YES. I was all about the Lemon-Aid and the Kale Rules. I’ll be honeset I’m not super not on beets but if you are a beet lover you’d love the Beet Boost. I’ve yet to try the Spicy Tomato but I’m taking it along with us this weekend on our camping trip along with other fixings for a camping Bloody Mary.

So overall I’d give this service a big double thumbs up.

Now if they would only start delivering cupcakes with their green juices…

Crazy Sexy Cleanse: Day 1

August 6, 2012 by Lindsay Ingalls 3 Comments

Well we are finishing up Day 1 of the Crazy Sexy Cleanse and so far things are going well. Neil struggled a little this morning without his normal coffee ritual and to be honest I could have used a cup myself but instead with both had a mug of Infuse Your Mood Tea, a lemon water with cayenne and a big green juice (makes one quart: one bunch dino kale, half bunch curly kale, one gala apple and half a mini melon.)

As part of the cleanse and my goal of getting back to my fitness Edie and I got out for a 30 minute walk this morning.  I pushed her in the BOB which added a little something extra to the walk- sheesh it is so much tougher to walk when you have to push around a stroller, a baby and a car seat!

After our walk and nursing session I was feeling hungry so I decided to have a few slices of millet bread with avocado, a sprinkle of sea salt and nutritional yeast.

Lunch consisted of leftover quinoa salad (quinoa, cherry tomatoes, parsley, green onions, cucumber and a homemade dijon-balsamic vinaigrette), a big glob of lemon dill hummus and leftover roasted veggies.  It was tasty but not too photogenic so I decided to nix the photo.

For an afternoon snack I had a fig COCOMOJOE bar which was absolutely delicious and I am quickly becoming addicted to all of the flavors!

Dinner was the highlight of the day- I made two recipes from Crazy Sexy Diet, the teriyaki tofu and the hemp cabbage salad.  I knew that the tofu would be good but I was skeptical about the salad and to my surprise it was actually really good and the perfect pairing with the tofu.

One day down 20 more to go!

Today on Naturally Family I talk about my first official day as a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom.

Green Juicing

June 28, 2012 by Lindsay Ingalls 5 Comments

Morning green juices have become a regular thing around our house for the past few weeks, we have one about 4-5 mornings out of the week. We finally have lots of local greens and our CSA to fuel our green juice habit. My favorite green juice this week was filled with collards, carrots, cucumber, lemon and apple.

What is your favorite green juice combo?

If you haven’t stop over to our family blog, Naturally Family, then head over now and Meet The Family.  This week we have been discussing my pregnancy ups and downs, pregnancy eats, buying for baby on a budget, attachment parenting and a so much more. Also don’t forget to enter the baby pool– will BabyRWT be a boy or a girl?

How Fast Do You Drink Your Green Juice?

September 29, 2011 by Lindsay Ingalls 2 Comments

Juicing is a wonderful way to supplement vitamins, minerals and enzymes. The fiber is removed from the fruits and vegetables which helps aid in the digestion process and helps the body to heal. Juicing is a great way to jump start healthy eating and give your organs a break. However juicing can be a very strategic activity. You need to plan to juice when you have the time and are able to drink it immediately due to oxidization. If you are unable to do so you may consider investing in a higher tech juicer so you are able to store juice.

Types of Juicers:

Centrifugal: This juicer has a fast spinning grater and a strainer where the juice goes through and then out the spout. This juicer is a fast juicer with a larger mouth which allows for less prep and easier clean up. However your juice oxidizes quickly which breaks down the enzymes and the juice starts to loose nutrients. When using this type of juicer juice should be consumed quickly, within 15-20 minutes of juicing. If you are unable to drink your juice immediately you can put in an airtight mason jar and store in the fridge. However if the juice turns dark brown it means it has oxidized and no nutrients are left, this is when you should toss it.

Masticating: This juicer has a slow turning screw that squeezes the juice through a stainless steel screen.

Twin Gear: This is the lowest speed; it presses the fruits/vegetables between two gears until the pump is nearly dry.

Both the masticating and twin gear types of juicers take more time to clean up and to juice and both of these types of juicers are more expensive. The benefit to both of these juicers is that they incorporate less air into the juice which allows them to last longer. The masticating can be stored in the fridge up to one day and the twin gear lasts up to 72 hours.

I would love to invest in a masticating or twin gear but after months of research I bought a Breville Compact Juice Fountain two years ago.  I haven’t been using it as often as I used to but I dusted it off the other day and got right back into things.  I have a drawer full of items to be juiced and I am looking forward to having a nice big juice for breakfast.

My Favorite Green Juice
1 bunch green kale
6 small carrots (or 2 large)
1 small apple
3 celery stalks
squeeze of lemon juice

Anniversary Getaway Day 1 Part 3 & Day 2 Part 1

June 1, 2011 by Lindsay Ingalls 1 Comment

After dinner the Hubz and I headed back to the Aloft for a drink (or two) at the hotel bar. Unlike most hotel bars the prices weren’t ridiculous and the best part was the beautifully lit patio, the fun seating areas and of course the pool table. The Hubz and I had a drink and had a mini photo shoot on the patio while we waited for the pool table to free up.

We played a few (okay like 5) rounds of pool before calling it a night and heading back to our comfy giant bed. It is always nice to sleep in a king bed and it makes me miss having one (serious who down sizes from a king to a double-not recommended).

After a night of dinner, drinks, pool and of course elevator dancing we were in need of a gym sesh.  So we headed to the hotel gym and I got in a run and the Hubz used the elliptical.  After that we showered and hit the road to the most amazing bakery I have ever been to.

WE CAME TO DANCE DANCE DANCE

C25K Week 5 Day 2

We spent a hungry hour in the car making our way to Wildflour Vegan Bakery what I am now claiming to be the most amazing bakery I have ever been to in my life.  I could honestly eat here everyday (and would if it wasn’t 4 hours away). We walked in and were overwhelmed by the vast selection of baked goods as well as other tasty items such as kale chips, fresh juices and smoothies.  To help us decide we took advantage of the free samples of basil lemonade, peanut butter brownie and raw chocolate brownie.

As you can see there were so many options to choose from but in the end the Hubz and I decided that the scones looked most appealing for breakfast.  After a heated debated over which ones we would get we decided on the granola scone and the spinach and mushroom scone.  Along with the scones I got a green juice and the hubz an avocolada smoothie.

Everything was amazing and we obviously ordered too much so we ended up taking the granola scone with us and snacked on it throughout the day. The scones were absolutely amazing and flakey; I have never experienced anything so good.

Finally Employed and Blogger/Twitter Meet-Up

March 23, 2010 by Lindsay Ingalls 10 Comments

Yesterday morning was a busy stressful one as I had a meeting with a prospective job that I really wanted. I brought hubby to work and then decided to stop into Healthy Living for a green juice and to waste some time since I had about 45 minutes before my interview.  I decided on having a carrot, kale, parsley, celery and lemon juice which ended up with a redish tint because they had just juiced a beet for the person before me.

While I sat and sipped on my juice I flipped through Seven Days and came across an article on Aux Vivres!

Aux Vivres is one of hubby and my favorite restaurants in Montreal to eat at.  Aux Vivres is vegan, prices are pretty good and they are open late! Last visit I had the Montreal Smoked “Meat” Sandwich and it was amazing! Usually we just go on the weekends and get brunch which is delicious but we decided to try something different on our last visit (mind you we went the day before for brunch haha).

Anyways back to the interview- I went to my interview and felt extremely confident that I was employed.  Basically I was told that I had the job but they had to finish going through the motions of checking my references to make sure that they were 100%.  I spent the remainder of the day anxiously waiting for my phone call confirming (or denying) my employment.  Finally at 4:30 I got the call and I am officially employed and start this Friday!

After the call hubby and I headed to Duino Duende for a beer and snack to celebrate.  Neil had a $5 Shake (Wolaver’s Oatmeal Stout with a shot of espresso and a drizzle of maple syrup) and I had the Allagash Triepl.  We then walked around a bit and I got some new shoes on sale at The North Face which I am pumped about wearing this summer for some trail hiking. After this we finally headed to dinner at A Single Pebble with my tweep @LynneLLisa who also has a great blog.  We met Lynne Lisa and her son for dinner and we all had a great time chatting and eating.  We ordered some of the standards: Mock Eel, Double Garlic Broccoli, Vegan Sesame Buddhas Beef and Vegan Mushroom LoMein.  We weren’t going to order dessert but when our waiter came back and told us about this yummy sounding coconut milk tapioca pudding we decided to get one with 4 spoons to try (Lynne’s son also got some yummy mango sorbet).  Lynne and I decided that we would have to try to make a rice version of this same pudding and I am working on a recipe to try (I will post if it is good).  Overall we had a great  night and can’t wait to meet up with Lynne and her family again!

Today is all about working on school warm-up classes, getting things done around the house and possibly doing a little online shopping.  I haven’t bought new clothes in almost a year and I think that it is time since my body has changed a lot over the past few months.  The worst part of getting pregnant is the new body and now after it’s all done I have wider hips and my clothes don’t fit the same.  Since I can’t wear leggings or yoga pants to work everyday like I do at home I guess it’s time to buy new clothes. Question: How often do you buy new clothes? Do you order online or head out to the shops?
