Fitness Friday | Grokker

October 10, 2014 by Lindsay Ingalls Leave a Comment

fitnessfriday
The following post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of Grokker.

So it’s no secret that I am really making an effort to get back to regular workouts.  One thing that I am finding however is that getting out of the house to workout is a bit of a challenge to coordinate with two kids.  That being said I have been trying to find ways to fit in a workout at home, even if that workout is only 20 minutes long. I mean a short workout is better than no workout, am I right?

Well that’s when the new health and wellness site, Grokker, comes into play. I tell you I have been hearing about this site for a few months now because Neil can’t stop talking about it.  He asks me weekly if I have tried it out yet and every time my answer is not yet, until now that is.

When the opportunity to work with FitFluential and Grokker came my way I decided that this was the perfect time to finally check out what all the hype was about. To top it off Grokker is also hosting the October Fitfluential 4 Weeks to Wellness Challenge on their site so it provided me with even more incentive to get working out and participate.

The 4 Weeks to Wellness Challenge provides you with weekly workouts and healthy recipes to try.  The one thing I appreciate is that they offer alternatives for the day as well because sometimes I just don’t want to yoga and would rather do a HIIT workout. Also to be honest the recipes videos just aren’t my thing so I’d rather sub a quick workout for one of the recipes and focus on my own recipes. Hey, I’m not saying the recipe videos aren’t well done, they just aren’t for me.

So far I have done the:

Yoga for Beginners – Sun Salutations (18 min)

Metabolic Meltdown (23:02)

and

Yoga for Kids: Beach Fun (18:53)

Edith has become so interested in yoga and has to get out her go-ga mat almost everyday.  She has a toddler yoga book that goes through a variety of poses that she follows along with so I figured that she would love to do go-ga with mama (or dada).  She went nuts for this video and I can see us doing this a few times per week.

grokker kids yoga

While I might be short on time to go out to the gym or to a yoga class I can always find 20 or so minutes in the day to do a workout video even if that means doing yoga for kids with Edith. I currently am using the 14 day free trial of Grokker but I plan to buy a subscription after this time because I really do enjoy using it and find it helpful for me to keep up on my workouts. I have been slipping in a quick workout during naptimes or right after Edith goes down for bed. I need to get my butt up and out of bed in the morning and work on fitting in my workout then but for now this works. I like not having to fumble with a DVD I can just turn my computer on (I need to get this linked up to my ChromeCast which would make it even easier) and choose which workout I want to do. Easy peasy.

Have you tried Grokker? What to do you think?

For those of you who are still wondering what exactly Grokker is here is a little more info:

What is Grokker?

Grokker is the community driven content network offering high quality, expert-led
videos in three key wellness areas: yoga, fitness and cooking. Grokker makes it
easy and enjoyable for enthusiasts to discover valuable content and seamlessly
organize and share choice topics, experts and opinions with a larger like- minded
community.

How do they choose content?

Grokker offerings must pass strict editorial, quality, and taste standards, with
category managers actively curating a selection of the best tutorials on each
topic available from other Web sources. All content available on Grokker has
been viewed and vetted, as well as categorized and tagged by its editors.

I haven’t tried them yet but Grokker also offers group classes if you are the type of person who really thrives on a community centered workout this might be something for you:

What are Grokker Group Classes?
Grokker group classes are a new feature for the network, which promotes
community-driven wellness through a portfolio of high-quality, in-house produced
fitness, yoga and cooking videos. Grokker group classes allow fitness
enthusiasts to engage with each other and the trainers themselves via online
chat, bringing the group fitness experience right to the users’ living rooms.

The Group Class Experience
Group classes offer Grokker members a way to benefit from the social and
accountability elements of attending a live class, without any of the downsides of
commuting to a gym or studio. At the appointed time, Grokker members join the
class from the Grokker homepage. Upon entry, they are announced in the chat
window and can join in the pre-class chat with other Members. The video class
begins playing precisely at the stated time and after class is complete, members
may continue their chat discussion with fellow class-goers.

Vitacost: Fuel Up

November 11, 2013 by Lindsay Ingalls Leave a Comment

The following post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of Vitacost. All opinions are my own.

With a toddler at home getting out to the market is often a big ordeal so I often do a lot of my shopping online. On top of that I’m always on the search for a great deal especially on my favorite products so when I was offered an opportunity to check out Vitacost I was thrilled. Vitacost is an online retailer of a variety of products including nutritional supplements, beauty products, natural food items, herbs and even products for your pets and home.

When I first visited their site I was impressed to find a number of my favorite brands including Vega, Nutiva, Bob’s Red Mill, Tinkyada, Navitas Naturals, Sunwarrior and Eden Foods. They also have some of my favorite non-food products such as California Baby, Dr. Bronners, Jason, and Seventh Generation. Honestly they have just about everything that I tend to buy at other stores but the prices are better and I can do it from the comfort of my own home while Edith naps. Best part is there is free shipping on orders over $49 and when I can order everything I love in one place it’s easy to meet the minimum.

Here are a few of the things that they sent me:

Vitacost Super Cacao> This was as new to me chocolate bar and it was so good! We go through at least one chocolate bar per week at this house and I think this one will be added to our rotation. Also I’m sure Neil is reading this right now and wondering why he didn’t get any- sorry love it was too good to share! Vitacost Power Snack> Now I have had these yummy power snacks from Navitas Naturals before and was beyond thrilled to find them in my Vitacost box. These snacks are bite-sized and a perfect mid day pick me up or post run snack. Edith loves them too. Also side note Vitacost has a ton of other Navitas Naturals products that I use regularly including chia seeds, raw cacao powder, cacao nibs and goji berries all at 20-40% of the price I usually pay.Vitacost Vega and Nutiva> Lastly two of my favorite products were also in my box.  I love, love, love Vega Energizing Smoothie and Nutiva Hemp Shake. I love to mix these protein powders with banana and unsweetened almond milk and have as a morning snack or post run snack. On Vitacost this Vega Energizing Smoothie protein powder goes for $15.99 and I usually buy it for $19.99 at other stores; that’s $4 I could use for a Sunday morning coffee date.

Overall I am thrilled with the products that I received from Vitacost and I can tell you that I will be shopping from them in the future. Anytime I can get a good deal on my favorite products I’m all in and Vitacost is the perfect place.

Have you ever ordered from Vitacost? Tell me about it!

You can follow Vitacost on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.

Letter To Myself #IWILL

May 23, 2013 by Lindsay Ingalls 1 Comment

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Under Armour through FitFluential. My compensation was clothes to wear for the campaign. I received no monetary compensation.
As always all opinions are my own.

Dear Self,

On May 11, 2013 you ran your very first quarter marathon. You ran your first postpartum race, 10 months after giving birth to a You ran the farthest you have ever run in your life. You dedicated yourself to running 3-4 Times per week for the last 4+ months and stuck to it. So what happened last week? Did you know that you went 10 days without running? On top of that nine of those days you weren’t working out either!

So how do you feel? Probably pretty sluggish, tired out and probably a little disappointed in yourself. Let’s be honest there really isn’t any good reason why you couldn’t have gotten in a workout or a run. You were being lazy. You were getting in your own way.

So move. Get out of your own way!

Okay so let’s talk about something positive. Monday you sat down and wrote a training plan for your upcoming races. Nice job!

Tuesday you were supposed to run based on said training plan, but you didn’t. Instead you did a HIIT workout. Not what you had planned but you didn’t just sit on your ass. Nice job!

Wednesday you got out and did that run you were supposed to do Tuesday. On top of that you did it in the cold, windy rain while pushing Edith in the BOB. Nice job!

Now how do you feel? Still a big sluggish and tired, as well as a little sore,  but I bet you are also starting to feel better and stronger.

See you can do it. You just need to get out of your own way. Only you can hold yourself back. If you want to accomplish your goal to run a half this October than you have to work towards it. Really work.

So lets make a commitment right here, right now:

I WILL sick to my training plan. I will not get in my own way. I WILL remember that you never regret a workout. If I find myself getting in my own way I WILL ask for support to help me push through because I WILL accomplish my goals.

You can do it just get up off the couch and move.

Love,
Lindsay.

#IWILL Under Armour What’s Beautiful Campaign

As a Fitfluential ambassador I have been lucky enough to participate in a number of campaigns and I am so excited to tell you about the current one that I am participating in. Myself and a number of other ambassadors are taking part in the Under Armour What’s Beautiful campaign. This campaign is a competition to redefine the female athlete but beyond that it is an opportunity for you to push past where you have been before. To put a goal out to the world and go after it in a big way.
UA_WB3_Poster

The Under Armour What’s Beautiful site is a venue for you to let the world know your goal while getting inspired by other women and getting the support you may want or need to accomplish your goal. On top of that you also have the ability to create teams or join a team of women who want to complete goals together.

Screen shot 2013-05-16 at 7.21.17 AMMy goal is to run a half-marathon and to not only run it but improve my performance and form while training for my half. I have already registered for a half in October and I have a 7K, 5K and 10K between now and then. I have only been participating in this campaign for just over a week now and I am already feeling more motivated and inspired by the other women who are participating. One thing that has been really helpful in keeping me motivated are the challenges that are hosted on the Under Armour What’s Beautiful site. These challenges are meant to pull you out of your comfort zone or at least pull me out of my comfort zone and really get down to work. Plus, I feel a sense of accomplishment when I upload a new challenge that I have completed.Screen shot 2013-05-16 at 7.21.26 AM

If you have a health or fitness goal, big or small, I encourage you to come on over and join the fun. Let the world know your goal and work towards accomplishing it in a supportive and inspiring place. If you like the group setting you can find a team that is right for you or create your own team.

What is a health or fitness goal you want to accomplish?

My Fitness Bucket List

June 5, 2012 by Lindsay Ingalls 3 Comments

Yesterday I started a new board on Pinterest that features my Fitness Bucket List.  Right now it’s pretty small but it is constantly growing and features my fitness goals for this year through my lifetime.  The items currently on my Fitness Bucket List are:

This Year:

One of my goals for this year is to start post-natal yoga at Evolution at six weeks postpartum.  The great thing about this class is that I can bring baby with me from 6 weeks until they start to crawl!

Run/Walk the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon.  I know, I know – I have a whole blog post written about this goal and I am sure many of you are saying um whattttttt? You are having a baby in July and this race is in November. Don’t worry my expectations are low, like lower and than low, but we’ve already deferred to this race and so might as well try.

Next Two Years:

Neil and I would love to run the VCM as relay partners in the next few years.  He ran the first half this year and really wants to do it again!

Next Five Years:

The Vermont 100 on 100 is a 100 mile relay race that is on Route 100 (guess that’s where it gets its name?) in Vermont starting at Trapps and ending at Okemo.  Over the past few years Neil and I have witnessed the runners and I have always  been inspired by the race.  The race route is beautiful and I am sure amazing to run.  Neil and I almost signed up last year when a few friends wanted to start a team but ultimately decided that we weren’t prepared to run that many miles and it would probably be a bad idea so our goal of running the 100 on 100 on a team together has been put on the back burner at least for another year or two.

I would love to attend Wanderlust again in VT, CA or CO or even Whistler would be amazing.

This is one of Neil and I’s big running goals to do- I would love to do the one that goes to Key West.

I can always use an excuse to go to Disney and what better excuse than a race that both Neil and I want to do?

Lifetime Goal:

This is a long term goal that Neil and I started a few years ago.  We have been trying to hike a little bit of the The Long Trail each year (unfortunately not this year- or at least no plans to yet anyways). Neil is the hiking lover and I’m in like with hiking but this would be an amazing goal to accomplish.

What is on your Fitness Bucket List? Have you started a Pinterest #Fitnessbucketlist board? If yes, link below!
