12 days of giveaways

On the 3rd Day…

December 3, 2010 by Lindsay Ingalls 10 Comments

Our next giveaway is sponsored by Erewhon; Erewhon makes a number of great hot and cold cereals most of which are organic, gluten free and/or vegan.  I was sent the Crispy Brown Rice Original, Cocoa Crispy Brown Rice and Raisin Bran to try. The Crispy Brown Rice are just like the ones I had as as child but way better and made brown rice and there is almost no sugar in them.  The Raisin bran was okay, not my favorite but I love how much dietary fiber and protein are in them.  As for the Cocoa Crispy Brown Rice they were made into a wonderful holiday treat.

Chocolate Brown Rice Crispy Trees

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of Erewhon Cocoa Crispy Brown Rice Cereal
  • 1 cup brown rice syrup
  • 1/2 cup barley malt syrup (or an additional 1/2 cup of brown rice syrup)
  • pinch of salt
  • 3/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Line a a medium sheet pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a small sauce pan over medium low heat the brown rice syrup, barley malt syrup and a pinch of salt until thinned. Stir in the peanut butter until combined.
  3. In a large bowl place the Cocoa Crispy Brown Rice cereal and gently stir in the brown rice syrup mixture until combined.  Let the mixture cool slightly and then stir in the chocolate chips.
  4. Pour the cocoa crispy mixture onto the making sheet and press into a 1/2 inch layer.  Let it set up for 1 hour and then use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes or just cut into squares.

On the 3rd Day…

December 3, 2010 by Lindsay Ingalls 21 Comments

Enjoy this special guest post by the Hubz!

To say that I am a coconut juice addict would be somewhat of an understatement. While I initially wasn’t a fan of it, I’ve grown to love it and just can’t get enough. I’m sure Lindsay has grown tired of me getting excited and wanting to try any new brand I see at the grocery store. If there’s a sale, I need to stock up, if I see a new brand, I need to buy it. I love that it is sweet enough without any extra added sugars or other junk and that it is light enough to be refreshing and not make you feel bloated. It’s also super hydrating and full of electrolytes (which makes it a much better choice than all those *-ade sport drinks)

After trying out many different brands, my “go-to” has definitely become Amy and Brian All Natural Coconut Juice (in the tall cans of course!). So, naturally, I was pretty excited when they sent Lindsay samples of each of their flavors.

I’ll give my review of each below:

  • Amy & Brian All Natural Coconut Juice – This is the plain, pulp-free version and was definitely my favorite. As I mentioned, it’s additive and preservative free with just one ingredient…young coconut juice. This is a light, refreshing drink. Sweet enough, but not too sweet.
  • Amy & Brian All Natural Coconut Juice w/ Pulp – Flavor wise, this drink is the exact same as the regular coconut juice. If you are not uncomfortable at the thought of pulp in your drinks, then by all means give this one a shot. The coconut pieces are small enough that you can swallow them with the drink without worrying about choking, but big enough that if you wanted to eat the coconut, you could. The one complaint I have about the pulp is that a few of the pieces towards the bottom of the cans were kind of woody.
  • Amy & Brian All Natural Coconut Juice w/ Lime – Again, this drink keeps with the very pure nature of these drinks with the only added ingredient being lime juice. I wasn’t a huge fan of the flavour that the lime brought to the drink. It was a little too tart and overpowering for me. That said, if a strong lime flavor is something you like, I would definitely give this a try.

The winner of this giveaway will receive One mixed case of Amy & Brian all natural coconut juice.

Sahale Snacks Giveaway

Two family-size bags (15 oz.) of their popular nut blends: Valdosta and Sing Buri (these are great for entertaining – on salads or simply served in bowls for snacking) plus a canvas Sahale Snacks apron.

Valdosta: Pecans with sweet cranberries, black pepper and orange zest.

These are really delicious and are perfect for the holiday season.  These are tasty by the handful or in a salad.  We are them in a salad with baby greens, apples and maple balsamic dressing; the perfect combination.

Sing Buri: Cashews with pineapple, peanuts, lemongrass and mild Chinese chili.

I liked these but I didn’t love the addition of pineapple.  We only had these on their own but they would really be great in an Asian stir fry or slaw/salad.

TO ENTER: This giveaway is open until December 3rd at 6am. This giveaway is open to U.S. Residents.

The Winner is: Megan Hall

On the 1st Day of…

December 1, 2010 by Lindsay Ingalls 75 Comments

Welcome to the start of 12 Days of Giveaways! I hope you are as excited as I am about this years special event.  There will be at least one giveaways each day so keep your eyes peeled for multiple giveaways in a day.  Today is the beginning and to get us started will be a giveaway from Amy’s Kitchen.

Amy’s Kitchen provided me with the following goodies to review for this giveaway:

  • Amy’s Gluten Free/Dairy Free Roasted Veg Pizza
  • Amy’s Gluten Free/Dairy Free Chocolate Cake

One of the great things about Amy’s products is that they are great when you are in a pinch and need to have food for entertaining.  I ended up bringing both the pizza and the chocolate cake with us to my Grandma’s when we celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving.  The pizza was one of the personal sized ones and we baked it, cut it up and served it as an appetizer.  It was a great hit! The flavor was wonderful.

We enjoyed the cake for dessert; we sprinkled the top with a little powdered sugar and served.  I really loved it and wish we had thought to serve it was raspberries or strawberries because the combination of the fudgey cake and sweet-tart fruit would have been so delicious.

My cake fell apart a bit oops!

Amy's personal sized pizza's are also great for a light lunch or dinner. The Hubz and I split the second pizza for lunch one day with a simple salad.

For the giveaway the winner will be provided with  how three Free Product Coupons — good for any Amy’s item, including all frozen items (retail value = $30), plus a nice Amy’s canvas shopping tote.

The Winner is Natalie – A Hint Of Cinnamon
