This weekend none of us are sick, we have a date night planned and I’m heading to my first yoga class in over a year. Despite the rain I think that this is going to be a pretty wonderful weekend. I thought I’d share a few things I came across this week. Enjoy!
We’re gearing up for more rain and these yarn activities to keep us busy.
My favorite VT based t-shirt company has their kids shirts on sale for $5 off and if anyone was wondering baby #3 needs this onsie so s/he can match with the older littles.
Babylist is my new favorite spot to keep a running list of things we need/want for baby #3.
We didn’t really have much planned for Father’s Day weekend since we have been so busy and already took a mini coast trip back in May but at the very last minute (I’m talking Wednesday) I decided to see if The Sou’Wester had any open trailers for a night away. The Sou’Wester has become one of our favorite spots to visit and this was our second time as a family and Neil’s third visit (he went on a work retreat there last July).
Anyways to my delight they had a few trailers still open so I asked Neil if he would want to go and of course he did so we decided to head to the Coast Friday afternoon just for the night. We would have liked to stay two nights but Neil had a Sunday Father’s Day 5k to get home to so one night it was.
While the weather wasn’t really on our side (it was overcast and a little chilly) we still had a wonderful time “camping” out in Seaview at The Sou’Wester. We enjoyed a little family time without the distraction of our massive at home to do list and Neil and I were able to spend a little alone time chatting, drinking (root)beer, eating Earth Balance Sour Cream & Onion Chips and playing many hands of cribbage while Edith slept.
Check out more photos from our trip to The Sou’Wester, Astoria and the weekend over on Naturally Family today!
P.S. this post is not sponsored and we paid our own way to stay at The Sou’Wester we just love it there so I wanted to share.
Salt & Straw: Coconut Ice Cream with Petunia’s Salted Caramel Bar –> Seriously this ice cream is insane. It was just released on Thursday and we already went for cones and then yesterday we bought a pint for our anniversary (hmmm and there are leftovers in the freezer…) (Almost) Nightly Park Dates: we have been taking Edith to the park almost nightly to have a little outside time before bed and so Neil and Edith can go down the slides. Edith is too much sometimes – lately after every turn she has on the slide she wants Neil go to down too and will sit next to the slide and say ‘dada, slide’ and won’t move until he takes his turn. Soaking Up The Moments With Edith: We are going to a family of four soon and while I am excited (and nervous) for this new journey I am trying to soak up the time I have with Edith before our new baby arrives. Celebrating Life With Neil: This Saturday we celebrated 6 years of marriage. What a ride it has been and I can’t wait to celebrate many, many, many, many more years. What are you loving lately?
Today is the last day of my 6 day vacation and I’m sad for it to be over. Neil and I have been super busy every day of this vacation and I am using today to relax and get ready for the short but surely busy work week.
Thursday I spent most of the day trying to get some work done around the house, I took a nap and then headed out to watch Neil’s softball game. After his game, we went to American Flatbread for our traditional post-midwife appointment flatbread date a day early since we had made different plans for after our Friday midwife appointment.
Friday Neil and I woke up early and headed out to an early morning midwife appointment at their main office 75 minutes away. We usually go to the satellite office that is only 45 minutes away but we had hoped that we would be able to tour the birth center but unfortunately all the birthing suites were full when we arrived so we couldn’t tour. On the upside we found out that the baby turned and that now there is a 98% chance they will stay head down!!
After our appointment we headed to Hill Farmstead Brewery so Neil could sample a few beers and pick up a stock (you can only buy bottles at the brewery). On our way there, we stopped in Hardwick at the Buffalo Mountain Co-op for lunch where we both got veggie and tempeh bowls with brown rice for me and quinoa for him. After we finally made it to the brewery (after getting lost, asking for directions, learning we needed cash, getting cash and returning) we finally headed to Little River State Park in Waterbury (where my parents were camping) for dinner. Neil helped them set up camp and then we ate tons of raw veggies with dip, Field Roast Sausages and potatoes, then Neil and I finally packed up and headed home.
Saturday we stopped into the VCM Race Expo, ran a bunch of errands and then relaxed. Since Neil was running Sunday we didn’t want to over do it and spent all afternoon/evening relaxing on the couch.
Sunday = RACE DAY! Neil and I both woke up bright and early to get ready for the Vermont City Marathon. I spent the day as a spectator and Neil ran his very first half marathon! We dropped Neil off at the starting line and then we headed to our planned viewing spot, just after mile 10. Since we were going to have a few hours to wait before Neil passed through we headed up the hill to cheer him on just pass the 2-mile marker.
Just Pass 2-Mile Mark (Neil with yellow hat)
After we cheered on Neil and his fellow runners we headed back down the hill to our spots and set up camp to cheer on runners as they passed by.
Finally we spotted Neil with the 4:15 pace group and gave him a big cheer as he passed.
We stayed and cheered on all the runners up until the very last one passed us by and then packed things up and walked down to the waterfront to meet official Half-Marathoner Neil (his unofficial time is 2:20!)
Monday after spending the day in the hot sun and running Sunday, Neil and I were both ready for our anniversary massages at The Essex Resort and Spa. About a month ago I scheduled appointments for a sports-specific massage for Neil and a prenatal massage for myself for our anniversary which is May 31st, BEST IDEA EVER.
We arrived a bit early, checked into the spa and then went the relaxation lounge to relax, sip green juice and water before our massages. We ended up having our massages in the same room together which was really nice and they were honestly some of the best massages either of us have had. We had the same massages about 3 months ago in Boston and although they were good these were amazing. The best part was I could lay on my stomach thanks to the special pregnancy belly pillow they had for prenatal massages.
After our massages we decided to take advantage of the facilities (you have access to the pool, gym, sauna, steam room and relaxation lounges) and we headed to the indoor pool for a swim. It was so nice to get in the water and swim around, I wish I had been doing this throughout all of my pregnancy! Walking has becoming more challenging but swimming yesterday I was able to do 300 yards with no problem!
After the pool, we headed back to our designated (men/women) spa changing rooms so that Neil could use the steam room and I took the time to put my feet up and enjoy a cup of tea, a cup of water and a trashy magazine since neither the sauna nor the steam room were options for me. We both showered and got ourselves ready for the day and then headed out to pick up a picnic lunch and run a few errands before settling in at home.
We ended our night with this delicious homemade flatbread and caught up on a few shows.
Yesterday Neil headed out on a 10 mile run and when he returned we headed out to pick my grandma for a picnic. We enjoyed the beautiful weather, sandwiches and then headed back to her place for a few rounds of cards. It was really a wonderful Sunday.
Neil and I decided to start our weekend off with breakfast out on Friday morning at Penny Cluse Cafe, there is just something that we both love about week day breakfast dates. I was thirsty so I downed a variety of beverages while I waited for our meals to arrive (tofu scramble and toast-yum!)
Friday night was a pretty low key- we enjoyed dinner, a nice 2 mile walk and then settled on the couch to with popsicles. We also did a little light cleaning since we had our second birthing class Saturday morning.
Saturday started out with bagels, coffee and birthing class. After our four hour birthing class Neil and I decided to get out of the house and have a late lunch at Magnolia Bistro and then we took a short stroll through the farmers market before I headed off to a work concert (for work not play). After I finished working the afternoon concert Neil picked me up and presented me with a beautiful bouquet of local flower.
We then headed home where I proceeded to relax on the couch and get some work done and Neil went on a nice long bike ride with a friend. After his ride we enjoyed a quick dinner before heading out the door to work concert #2 (this time I dragged Neil along with me). It was crazy busy downtown on Saturday night so we had to park a bit of away from the concert site which allowed us to get a nice walk in to and from our car. After the evening concert we decided to enjoy the nice weather and go out for a cone of sorbet before heading home.
Sunday: Happy Mother’s (Be-lated) Day to all you mom’s, mom’s-to-be and fur mama’s! Neil headed out Sunday morning for a 9 mile training run and I worked on making a picnic lunch for us and my parents. Once he arrived home we both rushed to get ready and headed out the door to Shelburne Museum for Mother’s Day. We met up with my parents and spent the day touring around the museum.
We enjoyed a picnic lunch:
After lunch we completed our tour and then we said our good-byes and headed home.
After too busy days and lots of walking both Neil and I were exhausted so we made some dinner, put our feet up and relaxed with the cat for the remainder of the evening.
