{Recipe} Bloody Mary Hummus with Naked Power Garden

I don’t know about you but I love hummus. Actually, everyone in my house loves hummus, my 11 month old could eat an entire bowl full if I let her. Since we are hummus lovers around here and we go through so much I have been trying to make my own hummus at home to save money and to make a healthier version.
Neil used to make it for us all the time but with his crazy work schedule/commuting there just isn’t time so I have taken over hummus duty and have been enjoying making a variety of flavors. Just last week I made a jar of balsamic hummus and Bloody Mary hummus (recipe below). Both jars were gone by the end of the week. I think we might all turn into chickpeas!
The Bloody Mary hummus was inspired by all the juicing that I have been doing for my cleanse. Instead of oil I used Naked Power Garden Tomato Kick juice to thin it out and provide the tomato/veggie flavor base. My favorite Bloody Mary recipe uses wasabi instead of your traditional horseradish so I used it in my hummus recipe to give a little heat. I also added some other traditional Bloody Mary ingredients such as (vegan) Worcestershire sauce and some lemon to brighten up the flavor.
Bloody Mary Hummus
- 2-15 oz cans of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 2 tsp wasabi powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- juice of 2 lemons
- 3 tablespoons tahini
- 1 teaspoon (vegan) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup Naked Power Garden Tomato Kick
Add the chickpeas, wasabi powder, black pepper, salt, lemon juice, tahini and Worcestershire sauce to the bowl of a food processor that has been fitted with the s-blade. Process on low while slowly steaming in the Naked Power Garden Tomato Kick through the feeding tube. Serve up with veggies, crackers and/or pita. For the best flavor make at least an hour before eating.
What is your favorite flavor of hummus? What is the most interesting flavor you have tried?

Find Your Strong: Saucony Virrata
I’m finally back in my running/workout groove and it feels so good. I am getting out with Edith in the BOB at least three times per week for a run and on the other days we get out for at least a walk. I am also back to strength training regularly and as of today I am back in the yoga mode.
One of the greatest things about getting back to regular workouts is trying out new fitness gear. Lately, I have been trying out the Saucony Virrata’s which are really amazing and super light. These shoes have a 0mm offset so they are a whole new experience for me and I am really enjoying them. I have been on a number of walks in them and some very short runs and have been wearing them for strength training at home.
Description from the Saucony Website: Stripped down to strong. The Virrata is our lightest and most flexible training shoe and allows your foot to move naturally. We removed everything that isn’t helping your run improve. What remains is a feather-light, ultra flexible shoe with advanced cushioning that promotes a powerful stride and allows your foot to move the way it was meant to. Built on a 0mm offset, this shoe lets your feet do the work while providing plenty of protection from the road. The breathable mesh upper makes the shoe incredible lightweight and quick-drying to run in wet weather conditions. Weight: 6.0oz.
I love how light weight these shoes are and am looking forward to working on upping my mileage in them overtime but for now I am slowly transitioning into them. Oh and did I mention that they are pretty nice to look at as well? I love that they are black with florescent highlights. They are flashy without being over the top.

Organic Pizza: Quick & Healthy Cooking
I love pizza. I mean really what American person doesn’t have at least a small love for pizza? I couldn’t eat it every day but once a week and I’d be a happy girl. Neil is a pizza crust making (wannabe) master so he often is cooking us up some delicious pizzas but it takes a lot of time to make your own crust so it’s always a planning process.
Most of the time when I want pizza it’s more of an I want it right now kind of desire so I’m happy to have found Rustic Crust handcrafted crusts that have no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives and free of trans fats, hydrogenated oils, GMOs, or added sugar. Additionally, Rustic Crusts have gluten-free, whole-grain and organic varieties.
I have been loving the personalized sized Gluten Free Napoli Herb pizza crusts. They are the perfect size for me to top and enjoy for lunch. I have been topping them with Rustic Crust 100% all-natural pizza sauce and my favorite toppings.

In addition to enjoying Rustic Crust Neil and I have been enjoying American Flatbread frozen pizzas which hold a special place in our hearts. When I was pregnant with Edith we would go to American Flatbread in Burlington, VT after every midwife appointment. It was a favorite spot of ours and now that we are on the West Coast we are able to find American Flatbread in local supermarkets, health, and gourmet stores nationwide and enjoy them from the comfort of our own home.
Just like at their restaurants all American Flatbread frozen pizzas are made with a 100% organically grown wheat crust and topped with fresh herbs, vegetables and the finest of cheeses (or vegan cheese). They’re all-natural, with no preservatives, artificial colors or flavors, and handcrafted from scratch, hand-formed, and par-baked in wood-fired ovens.
We recently were able to try one of American Flatbread‘s new flavors, which is vegan, the Farmers Tomato Pie – A dairy-free pizza with tomatoes, onion, garlic, basil, red wine, balsamic vinegar and a dash of maple syrup. We also enjoyed the Vegan Harvest which is a vegan cheese pizza that is topped with fresh tomato sauce, garlic, herbs and Dayia dairy-free cheese. Although both of these pizzas are tasty I’m so glad that American Flatbread came out of a vegan cheese free pie because I’m not always in the mood for vegan cheese but I’m usually always in the mood for pizza.

My Rockin’ Family

This post is brought to you by The New Santa Fe from Hyundai. Think your family rocks? Show us by uploading a photo of your family rocking out. Enter now for a chance to win great prizes (like a new Hyundai Santa Fe).
The holiday’s are one of my favorite times of the year because it means putting on Christmas music and dancing around the house (or in the car…or stores). Now that we have a little one it makes this so much more fun. However we don’t just rock out together during the holidays we spend as much of our time together as we can going on family adventures.
Surprisingly we have done a lot of traveling in Edith’s 5 months of life including Rhode Island and two trips to Montreal. Montreal was one of my favorite trips because not only was it Edith’s first international vacation it was Neil’s first international half marathon. Bonus it was the Rock’n’Roll Half which was so much fun to be a spectator. I am looking forward to all of the adventures and travels that we have ahead of us, and who knows maybe one day we will be driving in our new fully tricked-out Hyundai Santa Fe (because of course we are going to win this amazing contest right?) to run a Rock’n’Roll half marathon together as a family!
We think our family is full of mischief, as well as kindness and if you’ve met my husband you know how hard working he is, and well Hyundai Santa Fe and Rolling Stone are looking for families just like ours to enter their contest. So if you think your family is as rockin’ as I know mine is you can head on over here and enter the contest by uploading a photo of your rockin’ family along with 500 words or less about how your family rocks out together.
