Random Blog Post: Fire Ops 101

September 15, 2010 by Lindsay Ingalls 3 Comments

Warning this post is a bit random and does not have anything to do with the usual themes on my blog.

Monday I participated in the Fire Ops 101 program that my boss along with members were putting on.  I was asked if I wanted to participate as well and jumped at the chance; I work for firefighters so it only seemed natural that I should I should walk a day in their shoes-literally and figuratively.

The Fire Ops program is for elected and appointed officials as well as members of the media.  This daylong program includes hands-on fire fighting and rescue operations under controlled supervision of  professional fire fighters and paramedics.  Participants learn exactly how challenging it is to keep our communities safe. This workshop demonstrates many aspects of fire and emergency medical service operations, from suiting up in the proper protective gear to putting out fires.  Each of the four scenarios will give participants the opportunity to do what fire fighters and paramedics face on a day-to-day basis.  Each participant learns how to use self contained breathing apparatus, essential to breathing in heavy smoke.  Participants also learn to battle a live fire and be given instruction on how to respond to anticipated events of fire behavior such as flashover.

This was one of the best experiences of my life- I have found a job I love and have even more appreciation for the people I work for. I hope that this was interesting you-I will be back to my normal blogging tomorrow. For now here are a few photos from my experience.

G-Ma The Cougar

September 12, 2010 by Lindsay Ingalls 5 Comments

Saturday started out with a run with the Hubz and then our Saturday bagel tradition.  Then we were on our way to meet my parents, grandma, aunt, uncle and cousin for a picnic at Avery’s Gorge.  Today is my grandma aka G-Ma’s 79th birthday. She is quite the character and full of stories like the one she was telling us today about her “cougar cousin” who is turning 75 soon and how she has a boyfriend who is 20 years younger.

As we sat down to lunch today everyone was picking there seats and G-Ma was asked if she wanted to sit by the Hubz and her response was “yeah because I’m a cougar”- as I am typing this I realize that the hilariousness may not be coming through to you but my g-ma is pretty conservative, however she has her moments where she throws you off guard like this time (I didn’t even know she knew what a cougar was). Another time she did this was when she got mad at my father at a family gathering because he was picking on her and she jokingly said “i’m going to hit you with a baseball bat” (mind you she is the kindest lady ever and she was joking).  Anyways the remainder of the day was filled with us making jokes about her “cougarness” and I am sure just like the baseball comment she won’t be living this one down either.

Lunch today was a tofurky sandwich, salad and bbq “health crackers” aka chips.

After our picnic we headed back to my aunt’s for some cards, raspberry pie, and coffee.

My aunt made Neil and I our own little vegan raspberry pie - we didn't like it at all

Happy Birthday G-Ma We Love You!

Lulemon Love

August 29, 2010 by Lindsay Ingalls 2 Comments

I woke up Saturday morning to a wonderful surprise- a nice package from my Hubz!

My first Lulemon outfit! I was so excited I couldn’t wait to try it on.  Along with this outfit the Hubz picked out a bottle of wine (I’ve wanted to try forever) and my favorite trashy magazine.

I tried the outfit on and it fit great so the Hubz and I headed downtown to Lulemon (which I only learned that we even had one on Friday-so out of the loop) to go to a free yoga class.  So excited about free yoga classes on Saturday mornings at Lulemon!

The Hubz and I went to our first yoga class in months and it felt so great to be back on my mat with other people practicing all around me.  It is such a different feeling to practice with others then to just practice at home.  I honestly have no idea what type of yoga we were doing but it felt great, a little challenging at times but I got a good sweat on and left feeling relaxed (and hungry).

After yoga we stopped over at the co-op to pick up some lunch and sat outside and enjoyed our food in the warm weather.  After lunch we ran around and did some errands before having guests over for dinner.

New Moon and Jivana Spa

August 29, 2010 by Lindsay Ingalls 2 Comments

Friday after work I headed downtown to meet the Hubz and grab a bite to eat before we headed to our spa appointment. I decided that I we should try a place we had never been, New Moon Cafe,  at first glance I thought the place was super tiny but when we got in a little further we realized the place was huge!  We have decided that with the free wi-fi we probably will be spending a lot more time here, except strangely they are not open on Saturday’s.

The Hubz and I shared the grilled veggie sandwich (sundried tomato pesto is vegan!), a Gus soda and a bag of Zapp’s Spicy Cajun Crawtators chips. Everything was delicious!

After our bite to eat we went for a walk to kill some time before our spa appointment.

Finally it was time to enjoy our spa treatment! Since there were no cameras or cellphones allowed I didn’t get any shots but let me tell you it was amazing! Here are some photos from the Jivana website:

Entry and Massage Room

The Sugar Scrub Table

After the amazing Balinese massage I had a sugar scrub and left the spa feeling refreshed, renewed and so relaxed.  I decided to go with the lemongrass massage oil and body scrub and it really did smell wonderful.

After our spa appointment it was getting pretty late so we decided to go out for some yummy Asian Food.  We got the avocado roll to share and then I got a big bowl of tom kar soup with tofu, veggies and udon noodles. The Hubz got this great dish which was almost like a deconstructed sushi roll both amazing and ridiculously filling.

Q: What are you treating yourself to this year?
