Saturday Staycation
Saturday morning started out bright and early with our Natural Baby Care Class taught by our doula Sarah. In this class we discussed a variety of topics including attachment theory parenting, breastfeeding basics (we’ll learn more about this in our breastfeeding class in a few weeks), newborn hygiene, baby cues, newborn sleep, cloth diapering, car seat safety and babywearing. We learned so much and I can’t wait to share this on our new family blog Naturally Family launching in 2 weeks.
It was such a beautiful day that we decided to head downtown to the Burlington Farmer’s Market after our Natural Baby Care Class We walked around and decided to share a raspberry lime popsicle at the Adam’s Berry Farm stand while we decided what we wanted for lunch. We checked out a few food stands but in the end left disappointed that our favorite Tibetan stand was all out of the veggie options, that’s what we get for arriving too late in the day!
We ended up heading over to the new Himalayan restaurant to give it a try and because it had similar options to our favorite Tibetan stand. We ordered off the lunch menu which came with a drink, an appetizer and an entree. I ordered a housemade lemonade, pakora and chana masala, Neil decided to go with the spiced ice tea, dal and vegetable momos. The lemonade was good, not too sweet and not too tart but the real star was Neil’s spiced iced tea, it was amazing. Once our food came we decided to share everything and both the dal and the parkoras were really tasty. We waited awhile for our entrees to finally come out but when they did we really enjoyed both the momos and the chana. Overall we enjoyed the food although it took a bit longer than we would have liked for us to get our food (we were there over an hour, most of it waiting) and we both would have liked a little more spice (but we just love spicier food).
After lunch we decided to really take advantage of the beautiful weather and spent a few hours wandering around downtown enjoying the day. It had been weeks since we really had a Saturday to spend together and so we decided to treat our Saturday afternoon/evening like a mini-staycation. We did a little window shopping and then decided to pop into El Cortijo for an afternoon snack since we our lunch was fairly light and we had plans for a late dinner with friends.
At El Cortijo we enjoyed a ginger beer and a basket of chips, salsa and guacamole- a perfect hot afternoon snack.
After our snack we headed home for an afternoon nap and then we were off to dinner with friends. I decided not to take any photos but there was good food, good conversation and lots of laughs.
How did you spend your Saturday?

What’s In My Shower?
What’s In My Shower?
Over the past few years I have been working to find natural body products that I really love and that work well for my husband and I. We easily settled on a few body washes that we really love but it has taken years and many bottles of shampoo and conditioner before we finally found a few that work for both of us. Now that we have found our favorites we have eliminated non-natural products from our shower and rather than having a ton of different brands of products (for testing purposes) we now have just a few which makes the showering experience so much more pleasant- less clutter = more peaceful.
Current Conditioner: Avalon Organics Clarifying Lemon– I actually picked this up because it was on sale for $5 off at our local co-op a few weeks ago and I fell in love instantly. It smells amazing and it works really well to condition my hair without leaving a residue. It is also great for summer if you are looking to put some natural highlights in your hair, the lemon helps, like when I was as kid and sprayed a mixture of lemon and water in my hair to create natural highlights in the sun. Other conditioners I like: BWC Daily Benefits, Kiss My Face Whenever and Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat Conditioner
Current Shampoo: Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint– I haven’t always been a fan of Dr. Bronner’s but about 6 months ago we gave it a second chance and I really am liking it and Neil is loving it. I do find that I need to occasionally use a different shampoo (which I’m currently out of) because it can leave a bit of residue in my hair but overall I like it. I also love that Dr. Bronner’s can be used for so many other things such as body wash and the peppermint is great for clearing out your sinuses. Other shampoos I like: BWC Daily Benefits, JASON Smoothing Sea Kelp and Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat Shampoo
Current Body Washes: JASON Purifying Tea Tree, Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint and Kiss My Face Anti-Stress – I know it looks like a lot but I use them all depending on my mood. JASON is my everyday go to, Dr. Bronner’s I actually don’t really use as a body wash but Neil does most days and then the Kiss My Face is really perfect when I want to relax. Other Body Washes I like: Dr. Bronner’s Rose and Kiss My Face Active Athletic
Other Products: Eco-Armour Shaving Foam, Bulldog Natural Skincare Face Wash (for Neil not me) and Kelapo Coconut Oil. The shaving foam is for my legs and I love it. The face wash is Neil’s and he loves it (I don’t keep mine in the shower). Lastly, the coconut oil is used by both Neil and I for different reasons; I use it on my pregnant belly and Neil uses it on his scalp to moisturize it.
What’s in your shower? What are you favorite natural body care products?
Easter Weekend Updates
You may have noticed I missed yesterday’s Fitness Friday post- well this was due to feeling a bit under the weather. I woke up feeling awful and although I felt better by the end of the day I chose to relax and get better rather than work or blog.
Quick Fitness Update: I worked out 6 out of 7 days last week which included walking 6.5 miles and 60 minutes of yoga. My plan for next week is to do about the same.
This morning I woke up feeling better and we headed out to my aunts for an Easter gathering where we enjoyed salad, Field Roast sausages, roasted potatoes, cauliflower, asparagus and a slice of wonderful raspberry pie.
Following our meal we watched the one little one run around looking for Easter eggs.
