With the time change and my hectic to do list a big glass of water and a cup of coffee has been my friend lately. I have to say though I have been a lazy friend to coffee and rather than taking out the french press and making myself a cup I have been turning to our Mount Hagan Organic Instant Coffee packets that I found on sale at the natural food store a few weeks ago. As much as I love my french press coffee I just don’t have the time or patience to clean it and baby sit it while I wait for my cup of coffee. We are actually thinking about getting a coffee maker- a whole new thing for us- any suggestions?
With my coffee I have been enjoying a big bowl of hot oatmeal with flax seeds, wild blueberries, cashew butter and Bee-Free Honee (giveaway coming later today so keep your eyes peeled.) I have been loving this combination of creamy nutbutter, sweet fruit and a drizzle of honee.
Also wanted to share a tip I learned (by actually reading the label on the nut butter); when you have natural nut butters that require stirring- stir them up real well until it is all combined and then stick it in the fridge and it will come out looking so good (see below). No longer will you have to spend hours stirring your nut butter before you can eat it and you won’t end up with an oily top and dry bottom.
Before I head to the kitchen to make myself a bowl of oats I’ll leave you with a mini updated about our new furry companion; he is settling right in and seems to love being with us. He has the funniest little squeak he makes and when he wants you to give him love and attention he hisses – strange right? He also has come to love to spend his nights sleeping with us.

We really loved our Keurig before we packed it up for the juicer (very limited counterspace currently…). I never bought those little K cups because they seemed so wasteful, but rather used the “my K-cup” and put in my own fresh ground coffees. I like that there aren’t any filters or anything like that, just rinse the cup and refill with the next kind. And it’s kind of fun, like having your own personal coffee shop machine! 🙂

I have proposed that we use those at work for or K-cup machine but i’m the only one who’d like it and I hardly make coffee with it anyways (usually just heat water for tea- not k-cup tea yuck)

I have tried the Starbucks instant coffee, and it is surprisingly pretty good. I need to find some of this organic Mount Hagen.

The Organic Mount Hagen is good but if you are having anything bigger than a 6-8oz cup you will need to double up. But it is one of the better instant coffee’s that I have had – i do think the Starbucks is better though.

The Once Again brand of nut butters is awesome. Their crunchy peanutbutter might just be the best I’ve ever had! I have noticed chilled nut butters stay combined, but for some reason the PB gets so thick that it’s really hard to work with when it comes to spreading!
As far as coffee goes, I was always a french press girl until my husband accidentally broke mine. Since we do have a coffee pot, I haven’t replaced it. We have a Black and Decker that was about $40. It has a timer and regular/strong settings. I really like it.

I have tried a number of nut butters and I always go back to the Once Again brand- I love the almond butter and this is the first time that I have tried the cashew butter (it’s so expensive usually) but it was $5 off at the natural food store so I said why not try it?

Glad your critter is settling in well with you! Kitties are the best (we have 5!!!).
We have a Cuisinart coffee maker which I am in love with. It has a timer, so you can wake up to the smell of fresh coffee in the morning. The model we have has a stainless steel carafe, which I cannot recommend enough. It keeps the coffee hot without using the burner element, which burns the coffee if it sits. It is a little more money, but TOTALLY worth it!

We are looking into a Cuisinart my parents have one and they love it. I like the idea of the stainless steel carafe too.

I totally stir up the nut butter before putting it in the fridge, a total time saver! I’ll have to try that instant coffee…I’ve always been disappointed by them. As for coffee makers I have a coffeemate one, works well. I like strong coffee so I’ve heard the Keurig isn’t the best for people like me.

I’m really not into the Keurig myself- we have one at work and even the darkest roast still taste weak. I think that is why I love my french press.

French press is the only stuff I bother drinking anymore, but I was actually thinking that instant espresso really isn’t bad sometimes. And, as you say, way quicker! It’s also nice to have instant espresso around for baking with.
